__________________________

I have 15+ years of experience helping individuals with speech, swallowing, breathing, and sleeping problems in various healthcare settings including hospitals, clinics, homes, and schools.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, a lot of us were hit physically and emotionally, especially those who were ill. A lot of people were separated from their families, depressed, anxious, and obviously already having health issues. I needed to change as a therapist and start meditations and breathing exercises with my patients to help them with their anxiety and to improve their exercise tolerance after being locked down for so long.

This change in focus to breathing and daily exercise habits led to improved effort and mood during other therapies and allowed my clients to get home to their families sooner.

Years of helping people manage and treat chronic diseases led me on the path of becoming a Speech-Language Pathologist that offers collaborative and holistic therapy to treat the root cause of symptoms.

In 2022, Mr. Myofunctional Therapy, AKA Mr. Myo, an alter-ego, was created to spread the message of AIRWAY health on social media @Mr_Myo302 and www.mrmyo.tech.

I made this website to share all of my passions. Share my journeys through rapid expansion as an adult (MARPE), orthodontics, tongue ties, Speech therapy, sound money, and new technology. Also, did I mention I'm into Bitcoin and how we can use new breakthrough technology to optimize our health?

A short introduction to me, Mr. Myo

I'm a Speech Therapist with special training in treating sleep and breathing problems.

Introduction to Mouth Taping

Here are some cool tips on how you can start sleeping and breathing through your nose better!

There are devices I can teach you to use that help with breathing, exercise, sleep, and recovery too!

Mouth Breathing / Snoring / Asthma / Allergies/ COPD

Mouth breathing when we are not acutely sick is a habit that, unfortunately, we will not "grow out of" and requires intervention. Prolonged mouth-breathing can contribute to health issues such as cavities, worsening asthma symptoms, inflammation of the tonsils and adenoids, recurrent illness, decreased oxygen to the brain, changes in facial appearance and structure, and the development of sleep apnea.

Properly treating prolonged mouth breathing requires a team of professionals including a concerned parent, a pediatrician, an Ear/Nose/Throat doctor (ENT), and a therapist like me who is trained in how to evaluate and treat breathing disorders!

The Buteyko Breathing Method is a holistic approach to managing respiratory issues, such as mouth breathing, asthma, allergies, sleep breathing disorders, and COPD, by emphasizing nasal breathing and balanced inhalation-to-exhalation ratios to optimize oxygenation and alleviate symptoms.

I am also trained in the use of various Respiratory Muscle Strength Training (RMST) devices to help people improve their general health and habits, recover from injury, or improve their athletic performance.

Myofunctional Therapy / Oral Motor Therapy

Myofunctional therapy is an exercise training program for the muscles around your face, mouth, and tongue. These exercises are designed to improve issues with talking, eating, or breathing. Research has found that myofunctional therapy exercises may also be an effective treatment for sleep-disordered breathing and TMJ disorders.

Oral motor therapy is a treatment modality that focuses on improving oral rest posture (lips closed & tongue up, jaw relaxed), improving muscle coordination, strength, dissociation, and range of motion. Improvements in oral motor skills contribute to better breathing, sleep, feeding, swallowing, and speech production.

Integrating myofunctional therapy and oral motor therapy creates a synergistic approach to enhancing the craniofacial system and overall health by addressing muscular imbalances and functional deficits holistically. Myofunctional exercises strengthen and retrain the orofacial muscles to promote proper tongue positioning and nasal breathing, while oral motor therapy complements this by refining coordination, strength, and posture—such as maintaining lips closed and jaw relaxed—to optimize airway patency and reduce strain on the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Together, they improve craniofacial structure and function, mitigating issues like sleep-disordered breathing through better upper airway stability, which in turn enhances sleep quality, cognitive performance, and cardiovascular health. This combined modality also supports efficient swallowing and feeding, reducing risks of malnutrition or aspiration, and fosters clearer speech production. Ultimately, their integration not only alleviates symptoms of TMJ disorders and breathing inefficiencies but also promotes long-term wellness by fostering balanced craniofacial development and systemic harmony.

Feeding/Swallowing Therapy

Swallowing therapy generally focuses on retraining muscles to improve swallowing and to reduce the risk of choking and aspiration. Swallowing disorders (dysphagia) may happen in children and adults. There are various medical reasons why dysphagia symptoms may occur and they should always be treated in conjunction with your primary care physician.

Swallowing therapy can also help to retrain immature swallow patterns in children and adults and a "tongue thrust" swallow. Improper swallowing (and breathing) can impact eustachian tube clearance and lead to more ear infections in children. Improper swallow patterns may also contribute to changes in dentition, facial development, posture, and craniofacial pain.

Pre and post-surgical Labial /Lingual Frenectomy Therapy

Therapy involves exercises and stretches to optimize the healing process and improve the range of motion, strength, and function in the tongue or lips in preparation for and after a frenectomy procedure. This therapy, often guided by a myofunctional therapist and in collaboration with an oral surgeon, helps to prevent reattachment of the frenulum and to promote proper function and alignment of the oral structures.

After healing has completed, therapy to retrain swallowing, speech, and resting posture may be necessary to ensure full resolution of symptoms.
